Studies have shown that paint colors can positively (or negatively) effect your home's perceived value. Zillow suggests that certain paint colors can increase the amount a buyer is willing to pay for a home by as much as $5,000.

In gathering spaces such as living rooms and kitchens, it pays to keep paint colors neutral. Light grey and crisp white colors in these areas can increase your home's value by $200-500. In bedrooms, both light and dark blues have shown to be a favorite in homebuyer's opinions and were associated with a $1,500 increase in the home's value. Light blue colored bathrooms are a favorite. Studies show - home designs including light blue bathrooms promoted buyers to pay 1.6% more than expected.

Paint colors that could decrease a home's value include loud and exuberant colors. According to a Zillow report, for example, a bright red kitchen corresponded to a $1,500 decrease in the amount that buyers were willing to offer.
